MONT BELVIEU, Texas – A 13-year-old girl and her 40-year-old mother were killed in a crash in Mont Belvieu, Texas on Wednesday, police said.

The crash happened just after 11 a.m. and involved a 2010 Dodge Nitro and a 2013 Peterbilt truck towing a large flatbed trailer.

Police said the crash happened in the 11900 block of Eagle Drive, about 1/4 of a mile north of FM 565.

Police said the tractor-trailer was northbound on Eagle Drive, attempting a U-turn across both lanes of traffic. The truck became stuck in the right-of-way area during the U-turn, which left the flatbed trailer extended across both lanes of traffic. The southbound Dodge Nitro then struck the trailer as it extended across both lanes of traffic.

A third person, a two-year-old girl, was found alive inside a child seat in the rear of the vehicle. The child appeared to be uninjured, but was flown via air ambulance to a Houston-area hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

Mont Belvieu police said the mother and daughter were from Liberty, Texas. The investigation is ongoing.
