OBSERVER PhotoBrake failure may have caused this accident at Forest Hill Cemetery on Wednesday morning.
No gravestones were damaged when a truck went through a Forest Hill Cemetery fence Wednesday morning, Pomfret Town Supervisor Dan Pacos said later in the day.
Pacos said at a Town Board meeting in the evening that a tree protected some gravestones from getting hit.
The tractor trailer sped out of Wavepoint Warehousing (site of the former Carriage House and Red Wing factory) and blasted across Newton Street through the cemetery fence.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this time – but speculation at the meeting centered on brake failure.
Pacos noted the fencing will have to be repaired. Forest Hill Cemetery is run by the Town of Pomfret.
