Tanker truck crash causes 2,000 gallon spill in Kootenai County | Spokane News | khq.com

A semi-truck driver was ticketed after spilling more than 2,000 gallons of gas in North Idaho.

RATHDRUM, Idaho – A semi-truck pulling a trailer full of diesel tipped over at a turn on State Highway 41 Friday afternoon, spilling 2,000 gallons of fuel.

According to Idaho State Police (ISP), the driver of the Kenworth Tractor and Polar Semi trailer was from South Dakota and failed to properly prepare for the turn.

Those living within a one mile radius of the spill were sent a message from 911 alerting them to the incident, and the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office evacuated residences that were in danger of being affected by the spill.

Police say that an Idaho Transportation Department crew was able to quickly address the environmental hazard by pumping the fuel into a new tank trailer.

The driver of the vehicle was not hurt according to ISP and was ticketed at the crash site. Seasons Road and State Highway 54 is only open for residential traffic until the roadway can be effectively cleaned.
