Tanker truck catches fire on Interstate 890 in Schenectady | News | dailygazette.com

Schenectady firefighters Lt. Ben Yauchler and Nick Tino put out a tire fire on a tractor-trailer truck in the westbound lane of Interstate 890 near the Craig Street overpass at 9:15 a.m. Monday. The driver, who did not want to be identified, said the tanker, containing fatty acid, had a blowout, which started the tires on fire.

SCHENECTADY - A tractor-trailer caught fire Monday morning on Interstate 890 in Schenectady.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded at about 9:15 a.m. to the area near the Craig Street overpass.

The driver, who did not want to be identified, said the tanker, containing fatty acid had a blow out which started the tires on fire.

New York State Police said the incident related to a mechanical issue and confirmed no reported injuries.

The scene has since been cleared.

The Saturday night fire that injured four Schenectady firefighters may have been caused by fumigation chemicals released in the home, according to Fire Chief Donald Mareno.
