CLARK COUNTY (WQOW) - One person is dead after being hit by a semi-truck and trailer in Clark County.

According to a press release the Clark County Sheriff's Office sent to News 18 Friday, Sept. 27, the crash happened at around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17. It was on County Highway N by Dickerson Avenue in the Township of Worden.

The initial investigation shows a semi-tractor trailer was heading east on CTH N when it hit a bicycle that was also going east. The bicyclist was near the south shoulder of the road when the passing semi truck and trailer hit him, throwing him from the bicycle.

Authorities say 63-year-old Richard J. Wnek of Thorp was the semi driver, and that 65-year-old Andrew J. Niedzwiecki of Thorp was the bicyclist. Wnek pulled the semi over after hitting Niedzwiecki and called 911 to report the crash.

Niedzwiecki was taken to the Stanley Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Wnek was uninjured.

According to his obituary, Niedzwiecki taught special education at the Fall Creek School District from August 23, 1993 until his retirement on June 10, 2015. Mr. "N" was a beloved coach and mentor to many of his students and teachers coaching football, basketball, and girls' softball. He loved watching the Milwaukee Brewers, taking care of his animals, and fishing.

Wnek is listed as the mayor on the city of Thorp's website.

News 18 has reached out to the Clark County District Attorney's Office to ask if there will be any charges filed in this case, but we have not heard back yet.
