Kenyan Turn Man Burnt to Death in Kabale Fuel Tanker Fire | ChimpReports
A 20-year-old Kenyan national fuel tanker turn boy on Saturday burned to death after their fuel tanker overturned and burst into flames at Kyanamira Trading Centre in Kabale District.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, identified the turn boy as Rogers Onyango. The driver, 34-year-old Geoffrey Onyango, who is also Kenyan and sustained injuries, was admitted to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital at the time of reporting.
Maate says that on Saturday at around 11:30 a.m., the Nissan semi-trailer fuel tanker with registration number UAQ 192N/SSD 351Y was traveling from Mbarara towards Kabale town when it lost control due to brake failure, causing it to overturn and immediately catch fire. He said that the driver escaped while engulfed in flames, but his turn boy went missing until his body was later discovered, burned in the wreckage.
Maate added that the Police Fire Brigade and Rescue Unit responded swiftly, managing to contain the blaze before it could spread to nearby buildings, although three communication poles were damaged. Cpl. Kambale Isaac and his team visited the scene, and the injured driver was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
He confirmed that the charred remains of the deceased were taken to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, as authorities coordinate with Kenyan officials.
